Auckland CBD
What I found was a large amount of high rise towers, but unexpectidly I noticed that many of these buildings took the facades of buildings of the early 1900s. Facades such as 39 lourne street (opposite the large red pagoda-style skyscraper) are ornamented in renaissance style motifs - yet their beauty is overshadowed by the sheer scale of the surrounding skyscrapers of the post-modern period.
Because it is impractical to raise these buildings even higher, I my proposal is to bring the people on street level higher - a public space where aucklanders can shortcut their way through the city underneath the comfortable shade of canopies, while enjoying the views of aucklands historic array of architecture.
