Design 2 Food[Space] Final Crit

The final concept of the foodshow in britomart

Key Design Features:

The idea was to have people walking with food to be the literal 'Food Show', that could be viewed from Britomart. A bit like an exagerated catwalk.

The form of the canopy was captured from the frozen motion of a curious child looking through the britomart light shafts during the saturday morning food market.

A light blue handrail constrains people to a path. the colour reminding of recycling and sustainability. The path led you through a series of views including the dock, and courtyard views. Kitchen views become a constant reminder of how the food was made before eating it.

At the top, the catwalk and a visable canopy.

Key Design Critiques:
The large canopy shape could not be justified. The motion of people was taken too literally. More emphasize could be given to the act of people moving itself and what it represents. Also, the structure of the building was not fully resolved; which made it confusing.

Improvements that were suggested:
The blue handrail as a loop would refer back to the 'recycling' idea.
The notion of movement from private to public could be explored more.
Ideas of what you can touch and what you cannot touch can become symbolic.

Overall it was a fun project to work on, and a great learning experience.
